TOPS at SPAR Bierfest finds a new home at Sibaya’s SunPark

Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom’s new multipurpose facility, SunPark, plays host to the sixth annual TOPS at SPAR Bierfest this weekend, 30 September to 1 October 2016. Completed in time to host the event for the first time, the state of the art SunPark incorporates a marquee structure and deck, offering the facilities and support services of an indoor events venue, with the flexibility of an outdoor space.

With a brand new venue, refreshed festival layout and a richly expanded entertainment programme, TOPS at SPAR Bierfest 2016 invites beer and food enthusiasts to get in touch with their inner “Germaniac”, lug on the lederhosen, dust off the dirndls and get ready to party with added oompah.
While the traditional oompah music remains a staple, giving the authentic Oktoberfest vibe, an exciting development will see the inclusion of South Africa’s most-loved mock rock mash-up band, The Rockerfellas! Utilising the concept of the musical “mash-up” made famous by DJs and dance music producers, this five-piece band of merry musicians seamlessly blends the biggest hits of the 70s, 80s, 90s and now into a musical medley that will have festival-goers up and dancing. But it’s not just live music that bier lovers can look forward to at the TOPS at SPAR Bierfest. The Brauhaus hours are filled with traditional Bavarian Bierfest activities, with great prizes to be won.

Since inception in 2010, the TOPS at SPAR Bierfest has delivered South Africans a taste of the Munich Oktoberfest right to their doorsteps. The country’s biggest annual, national touring festival of Bavarian bier culture revels in all that is good about bier, bratwursts, pretzels, frauleins and of course – the music they call “oompah”.

Tickets are on sale now and designed to accommodate all budgets. Tickets are available in tables of six or eight, and single tickets start at R125 each. To book, go to www.itickets.co.za

Fishing on the North Coast, KwaZulu-Natal The North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal must be one of the best recreational fishing coastlines in the world. From Kosi Bay in the north to Durban in the south the opportunities for the avid angler are numerous and varied. In the northern region the waters are warmer and the sheer variety of large predator fish make for some exciting fishing that cannot be matched anywhere else in South Africa. Here you can expect to catch king mackerel, sharks, kingfish and queenfish as well as rays, skates and sandsharks. From Richards Bay down to Durban, these large game fish are scarce and kob, shad (elf) and Natal stumpnose are more common. In late winter and spring Garrick (leervis) are quite prolific. Other common fish on the North Coast are spotted grunter, rock cod, kob and pompano. Light tackle fishermen can look forward to catching blacktail, banded galjoen, bigeye stumpnose, snapper kob, large-spot pompano, javelin grunter and many other...
