Real SHISANYAMA @ Classique Braai Lounge in Hillcrest

Residents and visitors of the Durban Upper Highway will have a good reason to meet for juicy braai meat and delicious African cuisine, in an upmarket setting. Classique Braai Lounge is a concept born out of passion for good food and a warm social vibe. It is well positioned between Durban and PMB for business people to come and network in relaxed yet conjusive environment.

Entrepreneurs and residents of Hillcrest; Langa Sithole (47), and Sandile Dlamini (36), saw a gap for a braai lounge within easy reach, in a premium setting.  “This will be an establishment where one can enjoy good food and pleasant ambience. Dwellers of our arrear normally travel over 50 kilometers to get the taste that tickles their fancy. So we decided to bring it closer to home,” says Sandile.

“We also are targeting that exclusive market, with a good ear for crisp, timeless, South African and jazz music. Offering good food won’t be complete without serenading jams playing in the background. Think urban Umkhumbane or Sophiatown, with a modern twist. Classique will be a home away from home,” explains Langa.

Overseeing the kitchen and to make sure the food is of great standard, Sandile and Langa roped in Lungile Nhlanhla (26), the MasterChef South Africa top 5 finalist for Season 1. She was also one of the judges at the Shisanyama Awards and Festival held at the Moses Mabhida Stadium recently. The former food editor at Drum Magazine (Media 24), and current contributing editor for Ginja Food Magazine, promises only the best tastes and invites guests from other cultural backgrounds to come and try lovely African cuisine. On the menu you will find braai meat (beef, lamb, chicken and wors), Usu (tripe), Jeqe (steamed bread), inyama yenhloko (lip meat), giblets curry, amadumbe and many more distinctly African dishes.

7 things you will love about Classique:

Tantalising shisanyama to tickle your taste buds
Delicious African cuisine
A premium selection of whiskey and wine
A cocktail bar to rival none
Excellent customer service
Beautiful ambience
Good music

An added element will be the tourism boost in the arrear. “Most people come to Durban for the beach, friendly weather and the food. We have just added value to our arrear and given more reason to visit the Valley of A Thousand Hills, concludes Sandile.

Fishing on the North Coast, KwaZulu-Natal The North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal must be one of the best recreational fishing coastlines in the world. From Kosi Bay in the north to Durban in the south the opportunities for the avid angler are numerous and varied. In the northern region the waters are warmer and the sheer variety of large predator fish make for some exciting fishing that cannot be matched anywhere else in South Africa. Here you can expect to catch king mackerel, sharks, kingfish and queenfish as well as rays, skates and sandsharks. From Richards Bay down to Durban, these large game fish are scarce and kob, shad (elf) and Natal stumpnose are more common. In late winter and spring Garrick (leervis) are quite prolific. Other common fish on the North Coast are spotted grunter, rock cod, kob and pompano. Light tackle fishermen can look forward to catching blacktail, banded galjoen, bigeye stumpnose, snapper kob, large-spot pompano, javelin grunter and many other...
