Natural Paradise on the North Coast
Here are our top spots worth exploring when holidaying in this region of KwaZulu-Natal.
The Great iSimangaliso
Crowned South Africa’s very first UNESCO World Heritage site, this wetland park features an incredibly beautiful and verdant series of beaches, coral reefs, swamps, wetlands, woodlands, coastal forests and grasslands. There is a wealth of diversity of bird and animal life, ranging from whales, dolphins, sea turtles, over 500 South African bird species, the Nile crocodile, South Africa’s largest hippo population, elephant, black and white rhino, giraffe, buffalo and a range of antelope.
Hluhluwe–Imfolozi Park
Hluhluwe–Imfolozi Park is well known as the oldest proclaimed nature reserve in Africa, known for its rich wildlife and conservation efforts. The park is the only state-run park in KwaZulu-Natal where each of the Big Five can be found. Due to conservation efforts, the park now has the largest population of white rhino in the world!
The Best of Ballito
An escape to the shores of Ballito is a treat for families of all sizes with its small town, seaside vibe and permanent ‘holiday’ atmosphere. Outdoor enthusiasts and beach goers – eat their heart out with the assortment of activities on offer in this sunshine paradise with some of KwaZulu-Natal’s most pristine shoreline on their doorstep, water sports including surfing, deep-sea fishing, whale watching tours and even scuba diving tours a little further up north. Alternatively, explore local markets such as the Litchi Orchard, or visit Holla Trails Adventure Park for mountain biking and outdoor tracks for adrenaline fiends!
Enjoy the Best of Umhlanga
Umhlanga is home to some of KwaZulu-Natal’s finest shores and the beautiful Umhlanga Beach promenade – perfect for fresh morning strolls. Umhlanga Village offers up an array of on-trend fine dining and casual restaurants and pubs, while a little further up the hill, make your way to Gateway Theatre of Shopping for movies, a gaming arcade, the Wave House, more top-class restaurants and some of the finest shopping in the southern hemisphere.
