Nhlanhla Daniel Mahlangu was born in one of South Africa’s most vibrant townships, Mamelodi which is situated in the eastern city of Pretoria. Mahlangu played the clarinet for the big band of a music school named CAFCA for a small music school project in Mamelodi. Then Mahlangu started to play the saxophone while he was in high school at the age of 15.
By the time he reached tertiary level, his talent for this instrument was so obvious that he was drafted into his teacher’s jazz band. He quickly developed the love for jazz music and began playing at some Johannesburg clubs while he was still in tetiary.

Although he pursued jazz as his primary interest, Mahlangu was influenced by a diverse range of musical sources, i.e. gospel, classical, hip pop, kwaito, house music, mbanqanga and motswako.

Some of the great artist’s that we had the privilege and honor of collaborating with include Feya Faku, Don Laka, Dr Abdulah Ibrahim, Prof. Rufus Reid (USA), Sibongile Khumalo, Dr Yusef Latif (USA), Prof Lein Ariel (USA), Barney Rachabane, Themba Mkhize, Andile Yenana, Herbie Tsoaeli, Moss Mogale, Zwelakhe Duma Bell-Le Pere, Victor Masondo, Ringo Madlingozi, Zulu Boy, Skwata Kamp, Victor Masondo, Vusi Mahlasela and Italo Dlamini (Swaziland) and many more. He also recorded albums with the likes of: Afrika Mkhize, Mahlatse Matlala, Ayanda Sikade, Feya Faku, Nduduzo Makhathini and Tumi Mogorosi.

Nhlanhla and his band are on a national tour sponsored by #ConcertsSA#MobilityFund and stop on this day right here for you to provide you with a great performance out of the Jazz genre.

Dwellers of our arrear normally travel over 50 kilometers to get the taste that tickles their fancy. So we decided to bring it closer to home,” says Sandile. “We also are targeting that exclusive market, with a good ear for crisp, timeless, South African and jazz music. Offering good food won’t be com...
